I’m back

Long long time without writing anything. Lots of things happened since my last post. I’ve been looking for a new job everywhere in Europe, from London to Zurich. I’ve been in Amsterdam, I’ve been contacted for position in Rome and Milan, and finally I have found a new good position here in Sardinia.

My job position is always the same: Oracle DBA…..even if I have to work with others RDBM, like PostgreSql and Mysql. I’ve found new colleagues and a totally new “world”, very different compared with my previous one. The new people I’ve found are very interesting guys, they are very skilled. That’s a good point.

In July last year, my mother is died. Actually it has not been a good year the last one…. Fortunately my family helped me in such a situation.

Once again I started to study piano. I’m trying to save an hour at day to play, executing simple articulation exercises to recover a bit of agility and touch. Not so simple

My first Chopin

The book “My first Chopin” contains very simple music sheets. When the teacher gave me it for the first time, I didn’t know this Mr. Chopin and, to be honest, I didn’t like these boring musics.

That’s quite normal, as the sadness is unknown when we are only 8 or 9 years old. Nevertheless this Mr. Chopin will became, time after time, my preferred classical author, the wall against which to test day after day, year after year.

The love for him, arrives later, when I was 15 (or maybe 16..I don’t remember). Sadness had already introduced himself (I didn’t asked..).

I remember the moment when the love arrived: it was night, I could not sleep because of hot. I went in my room, turned on my HiFi and randomly chosen a disc from my father’s collection: the sonata number two!! after the first notes…. what a wonderful music…. how to describe the emotions, impossible to explain!

How many times I listened to it? 3, 4 maybe 5 times!

How many times I listened to it, after the first night?

But, any time I listen to it, the emotions I have are exactly the same I had the first time.

My Job

It could be very curious that for a strange case of life, the “pestatasti” personality takes place during the daily activities of my job.

In the same way I play piano (see previous posts), I use the PC keyboard to type incomprehensible command just to obtain useless informations on the screen. Of course I have to show an in dept knowledge about what I’m doing and the lines I’m reading……

I think I’m not alone in such kinds of jobs….

Music has come early into my life. My father bought a piano befor I was born. I don’t remember exactly the first time I tried to press down some keys….but I see very clearly in my mind, my little hands moving around the keyboard and “creating sounds”….. I was capable to stay there for hours, when I was a child.

Then, when I was 7, my father told me that in a couple of days, I would have begun to study piano. I can remember the first lesson, the master’s desk into the small room, the piano… from then on, I’ve never stopped to love music.

I’ve already said about the meaning of pestatasti; anyway it is possible to be bad players but great lovers.

I’m part of people that in their best dreams play Chopin, Mozart, Gershwin…..and play them perfectly.

well,

maybe “hello world” is a bit presumptuous. It should be better “hello mum, hello dad”.

Anyway, this is my first post, and people who will read it could ask himself: What does “pestatasti” means?

So, let me explain. Pestatasti is not an existing word. It’s the merge of two Italian words: pestare and tasti.

Pestare can be translated in “to press strongly” and tasti in “keys” (like the ones in your PC keyboard). So pestatasti wants to indicate a person, who randomly presses down a piano keyboard. That’s all!!! Pestatasti has been the nickname that my friends used when I played the piano in a little “trio” (keyboard, drums, bass).

It also clarifies the level of ability I was used to play……
